Welcome:
Welcome back to Small Daily Habits, where we turn everyday habits into powerful transformations. I’m your host Christine Miller, personal trainer, menopause specialist, and FASTer Way to Fat Loss coach. Today we’re throwing out the tired script on menopause and we’re zeroing in on what midlife really means.
Spoiler alert: it’s not about slowing down. It’s about waking up.
Midlife has been painted as a crisis for far too long. The new narrative? Perimenopause and beyond is a time of true empowerment. A rebirth. A time to shed expectations and take a bold step into the most authentic, healthy, and unfiltered version of yourself.
Whether you’re navigating perimenopause, post menopause, or just trying to figure out what’s next for you, this episode is your permission slip to wipe the slate clean and start fresh. You in?
Midlife Is Not the End: It’s a New Beginning
Let’s get real for a moment, society up to this point hasn’t properly prepared us for just how powerful this stage can be. But now? We’re rewriting OUR stories. Women everywhere are banding together, gathering at retreats, joining coaching programs, and building communities that celebrate this phase of life and I for one want in! The rise of midlife empowerment is NOT a trend. It’s a full fledged movement! And how exciting is it that YOU are a part of it?
Understanding the Stages of Menopause
Quick refresher:
- Perimenopause is your body’s warm-up act. You begin seeing signs that your body is shifting with things like irregular cycles, fluctuating hormones, and energy dips.
- Menopause is the milestone. Believe it or not, menopause is just ONE day. That’s why I usually refer to peri or postmenopausal women because menopause itself is one solitary day. That day is marked on the day you hit 12 months without a period. As Halle Berry stated on the Oprah menopause special this is the day that your family or girlfriends need to throw you a party called a SHEISTA! I’m totally on board for this. When you hit your Sheista Day message me and I will celebrate you and your wonderful journey.
- Postmenopause is everything after that. This is where you really get to work on building the life of your dreams.
This is YOUR life, you only have one and understanding where you’re at is the first step in claiming your power.
The Real Secret? Empowered Habits Over Fear
Symptoms like brain fog, fatigue, belly fat, and mood swings are common but not inevitable. When you are prepared for this change you can shift from surviving this season of life to truly owning it and thriving. This shift changes everything.
Here’s how to make it happen:
- Accentuate the Positive: No more periods? Yes please. Time to put yourself first? About time! Focusing on the positive aspects of this stage will make all the difference in your outlook and mental health.
- Strength Training is Queen: Say goodbye to the myth that cardio is the be all end all. Lifting weights builds muscle and bone strength, boosts mood, and banishes the getting old frailty narrative. Strength training equals muscle. Muscle equals faster metabolism. Faster metabolism means less weight gain, and more confidence.
- Ditch the Burnout Cardio: Instead of chasing fat loss with long runs, support your hormones with walking, short HIIT sessions a couple times a week, and yoga to round things out. A balanced and strategic program takes the guesswork out and is key to sustainable success.
- Fuel Like the Queen You Are: Whole foods, fiber, healthy fats, and enough protein aren’t optional anymore, they’re essential for hormone balance and overall health. Learn it, implement it, and watch yourself transform.
- Self-Care is Non-Negotiable: This stage of life can bring ups and downs. Give yourself the grace to breathe, stretch, journal, and FINALLY take that class or do the new thing that has been on your list for years! It will be so worth it!
You Don’t Have to Do This Alone
I didn’t. First, I had labs done to establish a baseline and to help me understand where I was at in my journey. I visited several doctors, including a naturopath to get the answers I was looking for. Once I realized cortisol was my main issue, I stopped guessing and started healing. Then I found the FASTer Way and here I am. The rest is history.
And guess what? Now that I have figured out the path that has worked best for me I can share my knowledge and help you avoid my mistakes and find the best path for you and your unique journey. It’s important to remember that my journey may not be your journey BUT talking about it can help so much and feeling heard and supported goes a very long way. Please, I beg of you. Seek the help you need.
